what Im really looking for is kinda like a transparent proxy server with compression. I was looking at setting up an apache proxy server with Gzip compression and putting that somewhere so it compresses the data and sends it to me then. I dont know exactly where to find the Gzip and proxy modules or how to set them up. Hope someone can help

"Squid" is capable of doing the things you are requesting. Of course the technical difficulty in configuring it to do what you are asking is another story.

I'm not sure if this is what you want, but I had ziproxy running on my FREESCO box for a while (until someone found it and used it for evil).

squid is one of those things that even the programmers of squid don't know all of the ways it can be configured. My best advice is to just start at the squid web site and then search the web for help on any specific configurations you want and hopefully you will find some examples. But unfortunately I never really had much luck finding examples and support was poooor to put it mildly.

I found something that might work, toonel.net, its java based and runs on the client computers, it seems to work pretty good. I tried looking all over the place to find something on squid but only found a bunch of stuff that made no sense what so ever, so Ill just give up on it
thanks anyways
