Follow up discussion for rdesktop with SVGAlib package request <a href='http://www.freesco.org/support-forum/index.php?act=ST&f=9&t=16614' target='_blank'>here</a>.

A very simple SVGALib test program worked at first on my FREESCO, but when I tried rdesktop with the SVGALib patch it crashed. After that the sample program crashed too.

<a href='http://www.jacco2.dds.nl/rdesktop/' target='_blank'>http://www.jacco2.dds.nl/rdesktop/</a> has quite a bit of info on rdesktop and a lot of ports.

<a href='http://www.rdesktop.org/archive/2001/msg01205.html' target='_blank'>http://www.rdesktop.org/archive/2001/msg01205.html</a> has the unified patch for SVGALib.

Someone else care to try?

I think I've found another possible candidate to try:

Code: Select all
cvs -z3 -d:pserver:anonymous@rdesktop.cvs.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/rdesktop co -P rdesktop

You'll need my cvs client non-package tarball to download this repository.

This is the svga ui port
send any fixes or improvments to me Jay Sorg(j@american-data.com)
svgalib should be installed
tested with versions 1.4.3, 1.9.x

thanks to
  Donald Gordon - original work
  Peter Nikolow - misc fixes

run make -f makefile_svga to compile it

success!

I've just managed to build svgardesktop and ran it in 640x480 mode on my FREESCO.
My FREESCO video card is a bit lame (I never use the console, so why bother?)

Its pretty amazing to see a windoze remote desktop popping up (granted in 640x480 @ 256 colors) on your FREESCO screen!

Code: Select all
chipset VESA          # nicely behaved Vesa Bioses

in /etc/vga/libvga.config did the trick for my box YMMV.

I'll see to make a package out of this ASAP, but now its time to hit the sack

I have overlooked Dingetje's posts.
As it seems to me rdesktop is not a hopeless problem for the FREESCO and it may become also the terminal-station for a win-server.

Let's hope :)

Let's hope

Check the package release announcements. There is already a package and it does work pretty easily. The only issue that I had to start with it was to load the psaux.o module to support a mouse and to add a /dev/mouse link into my dev directory that pointed to the /dev/psaux device so that the mouse worked on the rdesktop. Although the device is configurable in the configuration file and the mouse link is not really required.
If you are afraid that you might make a mistake. The chances are high that you will never learn anything.

I have install and test svgardesktop.
It work but without mouse.
Code: Select all
svgalib: Failed to initialize mouse.

Mouse isn't accessible in MC too, it isn't visible in FREESCO, but in DOS it's ok!

Where can I get psaux.o? In MODULES-038 it is absent.

Thanks.

For issues with the package please start a thread in <a href='http://www.freesco.org/support-forum/index.php?showforum=21' target='_blank'>3rd Party Package Support for FREESCO v0.3.x</a>.
